Manchester United bans social networking
Manchester United Football Club has posted a message on its website explaining that its players do not belong to online social networks. It advises users to treat any profiles in the names of its players with "extreme scepticism". The club says this is because of the high numbers of people impersonating team members online. There are many accounts across social network sites which claim to be in the name of high profile footballers. Manchester United players Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Darren Fletcher are believed to have had genuine accounts on Twitter, which are now closed. http://news.bbc.co.uk
Google profits leap despite recession
Recession, what recession? That's the message coming from Google, after it posted strong year-on-year revenue growth. The search company reported revenues of $6.67 billion for the fourth quarter of 2009 - a 17% hike on the same period in 2008. Interestingly, 12% of that revenue came from Google UK, with international revenues now accounting for more than half of Google's total turnover.
